Grass-Fed Beef from South America
South America is renowned for producing some of the world’s finest grass-fed beef. In countries such as Argentina, Uruguay, Paraguay and Brazil, cattle are traditionally raised across vast open grasslands, where a mild climate and an abundance of natural pasture create excellent conditions for cattle farming.
The extensive pampas and grasslands of South America offer cattle the opportunity to graze outdoors for much of the year. These pastures contain a wide variety of grasses and native vegetation, providing a naturally diverse diet. Combined with plenty of space and a favourable climate, this contributes to the characteristic quality of South American grass-fed beef: full flavour, excellent texture and consistent eating quality.
Naturally raised on open pastures
Grass-fed cattle in Argentina, Uruguay, Paraguay and Brazil benefit from an environment ideally suited to extensive cattle farming. Rather than relying solely on intensive feeding systems, cattle can make use of naturally available pasture and grow at a more natural pace.
The combination of fresh grass, open space, fertile soils and favourable weather conditions has a positive influence on the development of the animal and ultimately on the quality and flavour of the beef.
A responsible approach to beef production
Well-managed grass-fed beef production can form part of a more sustainable agricultural system. Natural grasslands can be used for grazing in areas that are not always suitable for growing food crops for human consumption. In addition, responsibly managed permanent pastures can support soil health, biodiversity and carbon storage.
For this reason, extensive grazing systems are an important part of cattle farming throughout many regions of Argentina, Uruguay, Paraguay and Brazil.
