Uruguayan Grain-Fed Beef
Tulling Meat Import supplies premium grain-fed beef from Uruguay to meat wholesalers, foodservice companies, butchers, retailers and distributors throughout Europe.
Uruguay is internationally recognised for high-quality beef production. Its extensive pasturelands, strong cattle farming tradition and widespread use of breeds such as Angus and Hereford make it an excellent origin for premium grain-fed beef. Selected Uruguayan grain-fed programmes combine traditional pasture-based cattle farming with a controlled grain-finishing period of up to 120 days, depending on the producer and programme.
This finishing process is designed to develop greater marbling, tenderness and consistency while maintaining the characteristic beef flavour associated with South American cattle production.
From Pasture to Grain-Finished Beef
The production process typically begins on Uruguay’s natural pasturelands. Cattle spend the majority of their lives grazing outdoors on grass and forage. During this period, the animals develop naturally within Uruguay’s extensive cattle farming system. For selected grain-fed programmes, cattle are then transferred to a controlled finishing environment. During the final phase, the cattle receive a carefully balanced grain-based ration consisting of ingredients such as cereals, forage, protein sources, vitamins and minerals.
Premium programmes may use a 120-day grain-finishing period. This final feeding phase is an important part of producing premium grain-fed beef. Over approximately four months, the controlled diet allows the cattle to gradually develop more intramuscular fat, commonly known as marbling.
Marbling contributes directly to:
- Increased tenderness
- Greater juiciness
- Richer flavour
- More consistent steak quality
- Improved grilling performance
- Better consistency between individual cuts
The objective is not simply to increase fat, but to create a more predictable and premium eating experience.
120-Day Grain-Fed Beef from Uruguay
A 120-day grain-fed programme is particularly attractive for premium foodservice and steak applications. Compared with purely grass-fed production, the additional grain-finishing period can create visibly more marbling and a softer texture. During this period, feed intake, animal condition and growth are closely managed according to the specifications of the individual producer. The result is beef with a consistent balance between South American beef flavour and the tenderness and marbling associated with grain-fed production.
For this reason, 120-day grain-fed Uruguayan beef is highly suitable for:
Steakhouses · Restaurants · Premium Butchers · Foodservice · Retail · Wholesale
Angus and Hereford Beef from Uruguay
Uruguay is well known for cattle breeds such as Angus and Hereford. These breeds are particularly valued in premium beef production because of their eating quality and ability to develop attractive marbling during a grain-finishing programme.
Selected producers may offer:
Black Angus · Angus · Hereford · Crossbred Grain-Fed Beef
Depending on the programme, cattle may be selected according to breed, age, weight, conformation and fat coverage before entering the grain-finishing phase. This selection process helps producers deliver a more uniform final product.
Why 120 Days of Grain Feeding?
The duration of the grain-finishing period has a significant influence on the final characteristics of the beef. A longer controlled finishing programme gives the animal more time to develop intramuscular fat. With a 120-day grain-fed programme, the goal is to achieve:
- Higher and more consistent marbling
- Improved tenderness
- Better moisture retention during cooking
- More consistent flavour
- Greater uniformity between animals
- Premium steakhouse quality
This is particularly important for cuts such as ribeye, striploin and tenderloin, where marbling and tenderness play a major role in eating quality.
Premium Uruguayan Grain-Fed Beef Cuts
Our range may include:
Ribeye
One of the best examples of the benefits of grain feeding. During the finishing period, intramuscular fat develops throughout the ribeye muscle, creating the characteristic marbling that gives the steak additional flavour, juiciness and tenderness.
Striploin
A classic premium steak cut with an excellent balance between lean meat, external fat coverage and internal marbling. A 120-day grain-finishing programme can significantly enhance the tenderness and eating quality of striploin.
Tenderloin
Naturally the most tender major muscle of the animal. Grain finishing adds richness and consistency to an already exceptionally tender cut.
Rump Heart
A versatile cut with a stronger beef flavour and excellent portioning characteristics.
Picanha
A South American classic with its characteristic fat cap. Grain-fed picanha combines the intense flavour of this cut with additional tenderness and juiciness.
Tri-Tip
A flavourful triangular cut from the sirloin area, ideal for grilling, roasting and barbecue.
Flap Meat
A highly flavourful cut with a distinctive grain, ideal for grilling and sliced steak applications.
Flank Steak
A popular grilling cut with a strong beef flavour, well suited for marinated and sliced preparations.
Additional cuts may include:
Topside · Silverside · Eye of Round · Knuckle · Chuck Roll · Chuck Tender · Shoulder Clod · Top Blade · Teres Major · Brisket · Short Ribs
Chilled and Frozen Uruguayan Grain-Fed Beef
Depending on the producer, programme and cut, our Uruguayan grain-fed beef is available chilled or frozen.
Chilled Grain-Fed Beef
